about

As a producer, Zack Mitchell has never been one to shy away from the cosmic. His first three albums as Blackbird Belle were tailored for headphone cosmonauts, boasting beautiful beats imbued with allusions to celestial nocturnes, mythical kingdoms, and worlds within worlds. Love The Bomb is the fourth album in this continuing saga, and it arrives with a minor caveat - escapism can only take your creativity so far. We all love to have our head in the clouds, but everyone needs to come back to Earth, at least once in a while.

That idea, and the main inspiration for the album were both drawn from the subtitle of Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 film, Dr. Strangelove (Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb). As a touchstone for the record, the personal impact of that tongue-in-cheek tagline gradually became increasingly significant to Mitchell over time. To summarize the ethos: in order to survive, you must learn to embrace the chaos you cannot control.

From the introductory orchestral swells of the opener, Be the Love, all the way to the triumphant, yet faintly mournful finality of the record’s coda, it is apparent that this was taken to heart. Elsewhere on the record, the immaculate vibe of Elemental’s ethereal odyssey elevates listeners to new heights, while the joyous, rollicking drum break and infectious riffs of the title track cast sun-soaked, brilliant beams of luminance across every surface of the mind.
